My Approach

My counselling approach is collaborative; together we will work to explore your goals, what is important to you and come up with a plan that fits your needs. I bring warmth, empathy, and a touch of humour to each session. I am trained in various therapeutic techniques and will draw upon them to help you meet your goals. These may include:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a treatment that focuses on how our thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and physical sensations can affect each other. CBT helps us identify and challenge the negative thoughts or beliefs that we may have about ourselves, others or the world around us.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a treatment that focuses on skills in five different areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, dialectics (walking the middle path), and interpersonal effectiveness. These skills are very helpful in regulating emotions and improving relationships.

Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy

Prolonged Exposure therapy is an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD. We know that avoidance of memories or reminders (people, places, things) often maintains trauma symptoms. PE helps to resolve symptoms by using exposure to both the memory of the trauma and different activities.

Solution-Focused

Solution-focused therapy is a treatment that focuses on practical solutions to current challenges or difficulties rather than past events. Solution-focused is goal oriented, promotes empowerment, focuses on current strengths, and builds upon the ways in which you are able to cope.
